Kalbarri Sunset

Simon finds inspiration in a beautiful sunset. His paintings contain locally recognisable silhouettes against a kaleidoscope of the earth’s colours at sunset through the use of separated colour, tone, and abstraction.

Simon has been creative his whole life, whether it was art lessons with noted South Australian artist Ruth Tuck, as a Town Planner working in Local Government or in his entrepreneurial career as a milliner and hatter while owning his own retail and manufacturing company making headwear. On selling the business in 2000 Simon began his formal qualifications in the arts industry by obtaining a Diploma in Visual Arts majoring in sculpture, a Certificate in Public Art and then a Degree in Creative Industries (with honours) studying at James Cook University in Cairns FNQ. Since his studies Simon has been actively making, selling, exhibiting and working in the business of art as well as very involved running workshops, curating, judging and writing funding applications. Post Covid lockdowns Simon sought a quiet existence in the remote arid landscape of Western Australia’s goldfield region, seeking a painting style that suited his working method and is still thoroughly enjoying the creative process. He has collected numerous art awards along the way and is in both Public and private collections.
