The Junction Co. is a creative organisation dedicated to enriching and empowering communities across the Pilbara through the management of projects, programs, and creative spaces. From exhibitions and workshops to community initiatives and professional development opportunities, our work supports regional creatives while strengthening cultural connection across the region.
Guided by our core pillars - Connecting Communities, Creative Enterprise, and Artistic Excellence - we collaborate with artists, organisations, and local communities to create accessible, engaging, and meaningful creative experiences.

Who We Are
The Junction Co.’s main office is located in Port Hedland, on beautiful Kariyarra Country. We acknowledge the Kariyarra, Ngarla and Nyamal people as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waterways throughout the region, and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.
Founded in 2018, The Junction Co. began as a creative enterprise focused on place activation and community learning experiences. Since then, it has grown into a well-established not-for-profit arts organisation dedicated to engaging, growing, and empowering regional creatives across the Pilbara.
Managing Spaces & Programs
The Junction Co. manages a range of creative spaces, programs, exhibitions, and community initiatives designed to support regional artists, strengthen cultural connection, and activate communities across the Pilbara.
Courthouse Gallery+Studio
Managed by The Junction Co. on behalf of the Town of Port Hedland since 2018, the Courthouse Gallery+Studio is located within the Portside precinct and showcases local and regional artists through curated exhibitions and creative programs. The space includes dedicated makers’ studios, an artist-in-residence studio, and The Store - a retail platform supporting locally created artwork and wares.
Portside Activation
Located in the heart of Port Hedland’s West End, Portside is a vibrant hub for retail, tourism, arts, hospitality, and community connection. In partnership with the Portside Town Team, The Junction Co. delivers place activation initiatives and events that help create a welcoming, creative, and connected destination for locals and visitors alike.
Karratha Exhibition Program
The Junction Co. manages the City of Karratha Arts Exhibition Program at the Red Earth Arts Precinct for 2025/2026. Through curated exhibitions, events, and professional development opportunities, the program supports regional artists while strengthening community connection through the arts.
The Jury Art Prize
The Junction Co. proudly manages The Jury Art Prize - a respected state-wide art award that celebrates and showcases exceptional artistic talent from across Western Australia. Bringing together emerging and established artists, the prize provides a platform for creative recognition, industry exposure, and community engagement while highlighting the depth and diversity of contemporary artistic practice throughout the state.

The Junction Co. team is made up of creatives, artists, strategists, facilitators, designers, educators, and community advocates passionate about strengthening creativity, connection, and cultural identity across the Pilbara. Through arts, place activation, and community engagement, the team works to create vibrant spaces and meaningful experiences that support both local creatives and the wider community.

Ashleigh Barr
COURTHOUSE GALLERY+STUDIO MANAGER
With a background in marketing and communications, Ashleigh brings creativity, organisation, and community focus to her role at The Junction Co. Holding a Certificate IV in Business and currently completing a Certificate IV in Marketing, she is passionate about supporting local creatives and strengthening community engagement through the arts. After previously living in Marble Bar and Carnarvon, Ashleigh is excited to be back in the Pilbara and contributing to the continued growth of the Gallery and wider creative community.

Nicole Leuchter
EXHIBITION COORDINATOR & CURATOR
Nicole is a self-taught artist and maker with a strong passion for creativity, design, and artistic development. Since establishing her own creative business in 2015, she has developed extensive experience across product development, studio practice, and creative coordination. With a strong understanding of both the artistic process and evolving market trends, Nicole brings valuable insight, creativity, and hands-on experience to every project and exhibition she helps deliver.

Chelsea Taylor
PORTSIDE ACTIVATIONS COORDINATOR
Chelsea brings bold creativity, vibrant energy, and a deep passion for community connection to her role as Portside Activations Coordinator. With a background in International Business and experience spanning logistics, large-scale events, and the creative industries, she thrives at the intersection of strategy and creativity. Passionate about bringing spaces to life, Chelsea works closely with local businesses, artists, and the community to create vibrant and inclusive experiences that celebrate the unique spirit of the Pilbara.

Scherezada Badia
EXHIBITION COORDINATOR
Scherezada Badia brings the Karratha exhibition program to life through meaningful, engaging, and community-driven creative experiences. Working closely with artists, curators, and the wider community, Schere helps transform ideas into immersive exhibitions and public programs that inspire connection and conversation. Passionate about the arts and creative collaboration, she is dedicated to showcasing and supporting the vibrant artistic talent found throughout the Pilbara.
Our Board
Our Board represents and serves the interests of the Pilbara community by guiding The Junction Co.’s vision, strategy, and governance. Bringing together diverse experience across business, community development, education, law, finance, and the arts, the Board plays an important role in supporting the organisation’s continued growth and impact across the region.

Kylie Unkovich
Position: Chair
Based: Port Hedland
Kylie is a long-term educator and active community member with strong connections across business, education, and volunteer networks throughout the Pilbara. Passionate about the arts and supporting emerging creatives, particularly young artists in Hedland, Kylie brings extensive experience across corporate, educational, government, and community sectors. Holding a Bachelor of Economics, Graduate Diploma in Business Marketing, and additional educational qualifications, she offers valuable leadership and strategic insight to The Junction Co.

James Hughes
Position: Secretary
Based: Perth / Port Hedland
Raised in rural New South Wales, James developed a strong appreciation for regional communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures from an early age. With qualifications in both business and law, James has built a career grounded in community engagement, cultural understanding, and advocacy. Through his work across remote Australia and previous experience living in the Pilbara, he has developed strong relationships built on trust, respect, and collaboration, bringing a thoughtful and community-focused perspective to The Junction Co.

Yvette Fernandez
Position: Treasurer
Based: Perth / Pilbara
Yvette is an experienced business leader with more than 30 years of expertise across finance, accounting, logistics management, and stockbroking. Having co-owned businesses in both Port Hedland and Perth, she understands the complexities and challenges faced by organisations operating in regional communities. Since founding her finance and wealth business in 2001, Yvette has worked with clients across Australia and internationally, bringing strong financial leadership, strategic thinking, and business insight to The Junction Co.

Patrycja Rosinska
Position: Board Member
Based: Perth
Patrycja is a specialist in community development, arts and culture, community engagement, and place activation, with more than two decades of experience across local government, not-for-profit organisations, and small business throughout Australia and Europe. Passionate about improving community liveability and creating opportunities for connection and creativity, she strongly believes in the power of arts and culture to transform communities. Patrycja previously served at The Junction Co. as Activation Coordinator and Acting CEO, and is also a co-founder of the Portside Town Team.

Clair Boyce
Position: Board Member
Based: Port Hedland
Claire is an experienced business leader and community advocate with a strong background in leadership, strategic planning, and business development. Holding a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, she has worked across a range of management roles throughout Australia. Alongside co-owning and operating Port Hedland-based civil and earthmoving company Everything Earth, Claire actively supports numerous local organisations, sporting clubs, and community initiatives across the Pilbara.
