This work engages the Pilbara as a site of deep time, where geology operates as both surface and record. Layering and repetition draw on processes of accumulation and erosion within iron-rich formations.

Iron-ore red, burnt orange and ochres intensify against the golden spinifex, amplifying the heat, richness and contrast of the land. A magenta sky and suspended, dripping horizon suggests a surface at its limits – softening, shifting and held between solidity and flux.

Deposits of Time positions the landscape as an active archive, where material and memory remain in continuous formation.

Artist Bio:

Janeen is a Geraldton-based artist whose creative journey explores the relationship between place and environment. Working primarily with acrylic painting, her artistic expression is deeply influenced by the Western Australian landscape and native botanicals.

Through memory and keen observation, Janeen crafts layered, expressive and vibrant works. She utilises lino and mono printing, as well as mark-making techniques, drawing inspiration from her experiences within Western Australia’s rich and diverse natural surroundings. These approaches add complexity and depth to her art, inviting viewers to look more closely and reflect on their own connections to place.

In 2021, Janeen was selected as the first “Artist in Residence” with Bush Heritage Australia at Hamelin Station Reserve in Shark Bay, Western Australia. That same year, she was also recognised as a finalist in the Midwest Business Excellence Awards for a Micro Business. This year, Janeen is hosting her eighth solo exhibition at her coastal Garden Gallery, which will coincide with eight days of the Geraldton Open Studios & Surrounds (GOSS). Her exclusive collection of textiles and fine art prints is produced locally in Geraldton.

Janeen is actively involved in community and public art projects, group exhibitions, art residencies and has been awarded numerous art prizes. Her original artworks feature in both private and public collections worldwide.
